Introducing our Icons and Pioneers collection: a series of kits inspired by the lives of notable women throughout history.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe was a groundbreaking gospel singer and electric guitar pioneer who helped lay the foundation for rock and roll. Blending passionate, soulful vocals with fiery electric guitar riffs in the 1930s and ’40s, she brought a bold new energy to gospel music that broke barriers and defied expectations. Her unique sound and fearless style influenced generations of musicians, including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry and Little Richard. Often overlooked in mainstream music history, Tharpe’s legacy as a true rock innovator is finally getting the recognition it deserves.
To create a kit for this incredible woman we drew inspiration from one of Thorpe's iconic guitars, a 1961 Les Paul Gibson SG Custom electric guitar. Through this kit you will learn the art of Goldwork including cutwork, chipping & pearl purl edging.
The kit includes a lavender chenille base fabric with printed guitar design and the bullions, threads and gold metal beads needed to create this artwork.
Kits do not include an embroidery hoop
Charity Donation £1 per sale will go directly to the Wonder Foundation - a women-led charity dedicated to transforming the lives of women, girls, and their communities through quality education. wonderfoundation.org.uk
