Severina Seidl (b. 1999) is a German artist and hand embroiderer. Her long-standing passion for art led her from studying fashion design in Germany to the Royal School of Needlework in London, where she explored ways to merge fine art with traditional embroidery techniques.
Maleficium, inspired by Otfried Preußler’s Krabat, explores themes of dark magic, fear, and the redemptive power of love. Rooted in folklore, the piece centres on duality — contrasting the ominous presence of ravens with the fragile beauty of butterflies. Abstract elements reflect the tension between darkness and light. Combining diverse techniques and layered narratives, Maleficium is both singular and multifaceted, inviting viewers to find their own meaning within its richly textured surface.
