In Person Machine Embroidery Class
This is a semi-bespoke, 5 hour session taught on a 1-1 basis and can be organised to accommodate a date & time that suits you.
Digital machine embroidery is fast becoming the go-to technique for cost effective, yet abundantly creative embroidery designs that can be made in a fraction of the time of hand embroidery. Popular amongst contemporary fashion designers, costumers and interior decorators, digital embroidery is hugely versatile and suitable for a wide range of outcomes.
Our digital embroidery department has embroidered everything from monogrammed pyjamas for Victoria Beckham to Brian May's wildlife jacket worn to the Queen's Platinum Jubilee concert performance!

This session focuses on the art of digitising for digital machine embroidery. Digital embroidery is the go-to technique for cost effective yet abundantly creative embroidery designs. Popular amongst contemporary fashion designers, costumers and interior decorators, digital embroidery is hugely versatile and suitable for a wide range of outcomes.
In this creative session, you will learn from H&L’s digital embroidery experts who’ll guide you through a range of artistic approaches, intended to elevate your designs through painterly blending and organic layering. You will also receive industry hints & tricks on the key to high quality digitising.
Sessions take place online, over Zoom and are recorded.
Dual Screen Sharing is recommended throughout for live demonstrations and simultaneous digitising.

Location: Online class via Zoom
Duration: 3 hours (with a 15 minute break)

Digitising is the process of designing an artwork into digital stitch format. This includes translating existing artworks or photographs or designing something from scratch, directly into the software.
Primary goal: create a file that is ready to programme into a digital embroidery machine, and is ready to stitch out.
Digital embroidery softwares have the capability to create designs using different embroidery techniques, stitch densities, spacings, and angles, amongst numerous other functions, rendering the artwork into a creative digital embroidery design.
Depending on your individual prior experience, the session with cover the basics of Wilcom, as well as some more complex techniques. The specific focus of this session is to approach digitising artistically, in particularly using blending and layering techniques to elevate your designs.
Session Itinerary
Hour 1: Wilcom Basics
Together we will master some basic techniques which are fundamental to all digitising including creating filled shapes with single and multiple stitch angles, creating lines and using the left & right sides of your mouse.
Hour 2: Layering & Blending
Next we will master stitch angles and move on to some more complex techniques. By layering shapes and adjusting stitch spacings and angles, motifs become artistically blended.
Hour 3: Fine Detail
In the final hour of the session, we will add the finishing touches to your digitised design. Borders, line details and dots will complete the design whilst colour order checks and underlay reviews will finalise the digitised file.
