Exoskeleton

Trained at the Royal School of Needlework, Edith Miller is a hand embroiderer who reimagines traditional craft through instinctive, unconventional methods. Grounded in classical techniques, her practice defies predictability through a playful, deliberate blend of conventional and atypical materials. Her work values innovation without abandoning tradition, allowing storytelling through stitch.
The concept for Exoskeleton began with a walk along the shoreline — a place Edith views as a living entity. Her time on the coast, discovering broken shells, barnacles, rusted metal, and sea-softened debris, inspired her exploration of hidden archives in nature. She collected barnacle shells by hand, fascinated by their protective structures. The concept of the “exoskeleton” became both physical inspiration and a metaphor for strength, self-preservation, and exposure.
