Landscape

Katy Merrington’s canvas work Landscape takes inspiration from the millefleur style of late medieval tapestries, such as The Hunt of the Unicorn. Working as a gardener amidst climate change and biodiversity loss, Katy was keen to tell the story of a damaged ecosystem disjointed and foreboding.

The composition was inspired by a found image. For a few years Katy has been collecting photos from the auction site eBay, when sellers of toy accessories sometimes stage items in beautifully playful ways, as if acting out stories with them. This piece references GEMZ Toys and Spares Playmobil listing ‘Flowers, leaves, bushes, trees’.
