Introduction to Silk Shading

Silk shading, often referred to as the art of thread painting, stands as one of the most intricate and creative embroidery feats to conquer. Within this class, you will unravel the enchanting process of seamlessly blending a spectrum of coloured threads, crafting an illusion of depth and lifelike dimension within their embroidery. On this course you will gain invaluable advice and experience with exclusive insights from our expert embroidery tutors that will show you how to translate your new found skill into future projects of your choice. From brushstroke-like stitches to the marriage of hues, this class not only imparts a skill but opens the gateway to a beautiful world of painting with thread.

In this immersive 2 Day course, you will master the intricate process of transferring embroidery designs onto fabric through the meticulous technique of prick and pounce. Dive into the artistry of thread painting, seamlessly merging colors to craft depth and realism. Additionally, you'll delve into the world of intentional and mindful stitching, nurturing a connection between creativity and craftsmanship.

All of the materials you need for this class will be provided for you as part of your course experience. You are more than welcome to bring your own embroidery equipment if you would rather use your own materials but everything will be provided for you.

Accessibility

Our in person classes are taught in our school which is located upstairs in our studio. Unfortunately the building does not have lift access, so use of the stairs would be necessary.

Tutor Profiles

Our bespoke classes are taught by expert hand embroiderers who have worked in the couture industry for brands such as Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Dior, Valentino, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, YSL, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, Schiaparelli, Lanvin and Burberry to name a few. The classes will cover the basics, insider tips and practical application making sure students are fully equipped to go on and apply what they have learned to their own garments and develop their own unique styles. Our tutors are work embroiderers first and tutors second which means they are able to give you a unique insight into the magical world of couture hand embroidery.
