Shaken & Stirred is a playful introduction to goldwork embroidery, blending vibrant metallic threads in gold, pink, and green to create a charming martini glass design complete with olives on a cocktail stick. In this new three-hour taster session, you’ll learn essential goldwork techniques, exploring how to use shimmering threads to craft intricate details and bring your design to life. Perfect for beginners or embroidery enthusiasts, this session combines creativity and elegance, leaving you with a dazzling piece that captures the fun and glamour of a classic cocktail.

Techniques & Breakdown

This exciting taster class offers a contemporary  intro into the art of goldwork embroidery, starting from the very basics of the technique. Our expert tutors will guide you through fundamental skills, including threading a needle, applying Pearl Purl and adding pops of colour with our beautiful Cutwork (with tips and tricks from our tutors). Delve into the diverse characteristics and properties of various metal threads, followed by immersive instruction on their use, allowing you to bring to life an exquisite design that showcases your new found skill.

Hand & Lock School - In Person Tambour Embroidery Course

How the Course Works

All in person courses are delivered in our embroidery school, located at Hand & Lock, 86 Margaret Street, Fitzrovia, London, W1W 8TE. The school is situated upstairs from our studio and is easily accessible by public transport.

Please arrive at least 5 minutes early to the class - if you are earlier there are lots of great coffee shops nearby. If you are running late please let us know as soon as possible.

Lunch is not included and the school room will be locked for a one-hour break, with the timing set by the tutor. We also have a list of local places to grab lunch, and there are lots of lovely venues nearby.

Accessibility

Our school is located upstairs in our studio. Unfortunately the building does not have lift access, so use of the stairs would be necessary.

Materials

All of the materials you need for this class will be provided for you as part of your course experience, but you are more than welcome to bring your own equipment if you would rather use your own tools.
