Explore the art of three-dimensional embroidery, where traditional goldwork techniques shape nature's delicate wonders into textured, sculptural designs In this hands-on class, you will delve into the techniques of goldwork embroidery, while exploring the exciting possibilities of three-dimensional design. With careful guidance and focus on detail, you’ll learn how to transform goldwork purls into sculptural forms, as you create dimensional flowers, delicate beads, and whimsical ladybird motifs. Whether you’re an experienced stitcher or a curious beginner, this class will inspire you to discover new ways to shape, layer, and craft in thread, resulting in beautiful, intricate pieces that showcase your personal creativity

Techniques & Breakdown

During this class, you will learn a range of skills from applying wire to create 3D shapes to delicate Goldwork embroidery. Explore everything nature has to offer creating 3 dimensional lady birds and flowers.

Materials

All of the materials for this course will be sent out to you. You will need a 10 inch seat frame or an equivalent embroidery frame or slate frame for this class. You will need to supply your own embroidery equipment (scissors, needle threaders, daylight lights etc) to suit your learning needs.

Tutor Profile

Amy Tang is a British embroiderer based in Hertfordshire, who loves playing with the boundaries of mixing hand embroidery techniques. Her main specialisms include goldwork, silk shading and tambour beading which she has been practicing since her university studies in Embroidered Textile Design. Although Amy has a deep appreciation for the traditional nature of the craft, she loves to play with the techniques to find modern perspectives. Beyond her artistry, Amy is an avid educator with nearly a decade of experience teaching others the art of embroidery. Now teaching at the prestigious London College of Fashion, she inspires her students with her dedication to both her craft and the art of sharing knowledge, cultivating a new generation of skilled designers.

How the Course Works

Technical Information

Our online courses are delivered via Zoom using a high-quality visualiser for close-up stitching. We record each session so you can catch up or revise later. You’ll also be added to a dedicated WhatsApp group, where students and tutors can connect, share photos, ask questions and cheer each other on.
