The Gauntlet brooch is a medieval love token reimagined as goldwork brooch pin. Embroidered in gunmetal grey and steely toned bullions, this intricately embroidered gauntlet features armour and rivet inspired details and a delicate lace handkerchief.
A token of love & honour in medieval courting tradition, a knight would strive to win the favour of a lady and collect her handkerchief to serve as a symbol of devotion and good luck before battle. The handkerchiefs, which were often pure white and adorned with lace or personalised embroidery, were tied to the knight's armour as a visible declaration of his devotion.
Size: 50x45mm approx.
Materials: White metal bullions in grey tones. Backed with silver metallic faux leather. Silver plated brooch pin. Cotton lace 'handkerchief'.
