This course is designed to introduce budding embroiderers to a selection of techniques we use here at Hand & Lock and in the world of couture embroidery. Exploring hand embroidery with a range of different materials, this class gives students an insight into the world of couture. The techniques taught in this class are used regularly in London, Paris and New York couture houses and are often seen on the catwalk. You will use a range of materials which will be applied in various techniques to create different effects.

Techniques & Breakdown

With the guidance of our expert tutors you will be shown how to create a series of beautifully embroidered butterflies using couture materials from our archive collection. This class combines traditional embellishment and goldwork techniques within a contemporary design piece. The base of this piece is a black Silk Organza leaving you with a beautifully embroidered piece.

Materials & Kits

All of the materials for this course will be sent out to you. You will need a 10 inch seat frame or an equivalent embroidery frame or slate frame for this class. You will need to supply your own embroidery equipment (scissors, needle threaders, daylight lights etc) to suit your learning needs.

Technical Information

Our online courses are delivered via Zoom using a high-quality visualiser for close-up stitching. We record each session so you can catch up or revise later. You’ll also be added to a dedicated WhatsApp group, where students and tutors can connect, share photos, ask questions and cheer each other on.

UK Shipping - Parcels will be sent via Royal Mail Tracked 2 weeks to 3 days before the course start date.
