The embroidery stitches are shown from multiple points of view making learning the techniques as similar as possible to an in person class experience. The classes will cover the basics, insider tips and practical application, making sure you are fully equipped to go on and apply what you have learned to your future projects and develop your own unique style. If you are learning a new skill for a specific purpose and need a little advice, our teachers will be able to talk to you about how you can best apply what you have learnt to your specific project. Upon successful completion of the class you can request an official Hand & Lock certificate detailing the new skills mastered.

Who teaches the online classes at Hand & Lock?
Our bespoke online courses are taught by expert hand embroiderers with couture experience at top fashion houses including Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Dior, Valentino, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, YSL, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, Schiaparelli, Lanvin, and Burberry. What if the online course I want to join is sold out?
Online courses have limited spaces to ensure personalised teaching. If a course is sold out, sign up for a ‘back in stock’ alert and we’ll notify you if a place becomes available.
What format do the online classes take?
All online classes are delivered live via Zoom, supported by a WhatsApp group for sharing detailed photos, progress updates, and extra guidance. After booking, you’ll receive an easy-to-follow guide for setting up Zoom and WhatsApp to get ready for your course.
Will the online classes be recorded?
Yes! Although we encourage live attendance for the best tutor interaction and community experience, every session is recorded and shared with students. You can download and re-watch videos anytime during or after your course.
Do I need prior hand embroidery experience for online classes?
Our online courses welcome all skill levels, from beginners to advanced embroiderers. Course descriptions clearly state the recommended experience level, so please check before booking.
What happens if I miss a live online session?
If you can’t attend a live class, no worries - the session recordings are emailed at the end of each day so you won’t miss any content.
What materials do I need for an online course?
All online courses (excluding taster courses) include a complete kit with materials and tools, shipped approximately two weeks before your start date. If you haven’t received your kit one week before the class, please contact us at school@handembroidery.com. Please note international shipments take around two weeks, so avoid booking if your course starts sooner.
Can I attend online classes from a different time zone?
Absolutely! Our online courses are ideal for international students. Class times are UK-based, but recordings allow you to learn at your own pace, whenever suits you best. Need help converting time zones? Visit our time zone converter link on the website.
Where can I buy extra kit supplies?
Additional embroidery supplies from your kit are available to buy anytime from the Hand & Lock online store or our London shop for your future projects.
I ordered other products with my kit, when will they arrive?
Any products ordered alongside your course will be dispatched with your course kit, as course kits are sent out two weeks before the course date if you are wanting your additional products sooner please order these separately.
