Hand & Lock’s new Christmas Ribbons taster is a festive and creative embroidery course where you can design your own custom velvet ribbons with an initial of your choice. Delivered via Zoom, this session gives you the freedom to select the colour of your velvet ribbon, allowing you to tailor it to your personal holiday style or décor theme. Using traditional embroidery techniques, you’ll learn how to add a monogram or initial to your ribbon, creating a beautiful, bespoke design. These personalised ribbons are perfect for adding a special touch to your Christmas tree or enhancing your table settings—wrap them around the base of candles, glasses or even gift packages. With high-resolution cameras and expert guidance, you’ll enjoy a relaxed and interactive learning experience, all from the comfort of home. By the end of the class, you’ll have a handcrafted ribbon that adds a unique and elegant element to your festive decorations, making your holiday season extra special.

Techniques & Breakdown

This exciting taster class offers a beautiful intro into the art of goldwork embroidery, starting from the very basics of the technique. Our expert tutors will guide you through fundamental skills, including threading a needle, applying Pearl Purl outline and filling with gorgeous Cutwork. (with tips and tricks from our tutors). Delve into the diverse characteristics and properties of various metal threads, followed by immersive instruction on their use, allowing you to bring to life an exquisite design that showcases your new found skill.

Materials & Kits

Before every taster course, we ensure that all students are fully prepared by providing a detailed kit list well in advance. This list includes all the materials and tools you'll need to participate in the session, along with direct links to recommended suppliers, making it easy for you to source everything ahead of time. You will need: Gold Pearl Purl, Smooth Purl, Yellow Gutermann’s thread, Velvet Ribbon, Silk Organza 40x40cm piece, Embroidery Needles size 12, 10 inch Hoop and Embroidery Scissors.

Technical Information

Our online courses are delivered via Zoom using a high-quality visualiser for close-up stitching. We record each session so you can catch up or revise later. You’ll also be added to a dedicated WhatsApp group, where students and tutors can connect, share photos, ask questions and cheer each other on.

Shipping Information

All of the materials for your course will be shipped to you, unless otherwise stated in the product description.

UK Shipping - Parcels will be sent via Royal Mail Tracked 2 weeks to 3 days before the course start date.

International Shipping - Parcels are shipped via express courier 2 weeks before the course start date, at the latest. If you book in the 2 week window, we cannot guarantee on-time delivery.

Additional Items in Your Order - If you place an order that includes both your course and other shop items, these will all be shipped together with your kit. If you would like non-course items sooner, please place a separate order.
