Yume Ueno

Memory Record
Mentor: Richard McVetis
Country: France
Yume, an embroidery artist based in France, transforms intangible emotions into intricate abstract forms. Her time-intensive garments invite a slower rhythm in fashion, honouring craftsmanship and the unseen hands behind each piece. Through her work, she sparks awareness of beauty, value and the industry’s environmental and human rights issues.
Her embroidery, at once decadent and luminous, evokes the sleepless landscapes of the city at night. Using materials such as photographic film and cassette tapes, she draws inspiration from forms of record deeply tied to daily life — emakimono, newspapers, manga. Square patterns, ink gradations and delicate lines emerge through a fusion of haute couture and folk embroidery, weaving memory into tactile, time-rich expressions.
