Where The Apron Once Was

Charlotte is a West Yorkshire–based digital embroidery practitioner. After discovering her skills in digital embroidery while studying for a degree in Costume with Textiles, she went on to establish her own business specialising in digital embroidery for theatre, with ambitions to expand into the HETV and film industries.

Inspired by an 18th-century embroidered apron scrap from the Roger Warner Textile Collection at Temple Newsam House, Charlotte has transformed a fragment of domestic history into a theatrical statement piece. She uses digital embroidery not only as embellishment but also as an integral part of construction, carrying embroidery fluidly across seam lines and merging the two worlds of decoration and form.
