Our Earth as Heritage

Cath Orain is a French embroiderer based in Paris. After discovering traditional embroidery during a trip to Senegal, she began textile research on sensitive subjects such as feminism and ecology, which led her to earn a degree in textile design. Since 2012, her work has been regularly exhibited and published worldwide.

Inspired by St. Luc’s arm-shaped reliquary, this mixed-material sculpture reflects the diverse ecological disasters caused by humanity — disasters that are increasingly amplified by current political conditions and the industries’ wilful negligence and inaction. Destruction and fragility, but also adaptation and hope, are the common threads of this piece, crafted with a blend of handmade and digital techniques.
