Description

Location: Online via Zoom

Duration: 5 Consecutive Days

Join us for our 5 day, online course focused on creating this sculptural goldwork butterfly. Based on the Papilio Canadensis, this class blends traditional goldwork and stumpwork techniques, offering a unique exploration of texture, movement, and depth. You’ll learn to harness the sculptural qualities of stumpwork (with a few twists) to bring to life the dynamic motion of this butterfly, using innovative techniques that make the wings rise and flutter off the fabric. As we explore the enchanting details of this insect, you'll gain expertise in crafting intricate textures with goldwork threads and three-dimensional effects and by the end of the course, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind embroidered butterfly.

Please Note: This is an intermediate course and we recommend having some goldwork experience. Stitching outside of class will be required. (Each day’s work must be completed in order to move onto the next steps)

Techniques & Breakdown

During this 5 day class you will learn a wide range of Goldwork techniques, starting with the soft string padding to create the 3D base for your butterflies body. You will then learn a range of metal thread embroidery techniques including applying Pearl Purl, cutwork and chipping. You will then learn how to complete your finished butterfly in the style of Michelle Agnew.
