Description

Location: Online via Zoom

Duration: 3 Weekly 2 hour sessions

Join Lucy Martin and Charlotte Gaunt for a three-day online course where you’ll stitch a beautifully delicate, goldwork butterfly with a shimmering, translucent effect. This class is all about exploring light, texture and movement, blending tambour and stumpwork techniques to create a butterfly that appears to hover just above the fabric.

You’ll be working on a fine silk organza base, layering gold threads to create airy, shimmering wings, with tiny gold beads adding a touch of sparkle. To complete the piece, your butterfly will be placed over a dark navy and gold foxglove print fabric designed by Charlotte Gaunt, which you’ll enhance with foiling techniques for a soft, glowing background.

Over three relaxed sessions (two hours per day), you’ll build confidence in structural embroidery, learning how to work with metal threads to create delicate three-dimensional effects. By the end, you’ll have a truly unique piece.

Note: Some stitching outside of class may be needed to keep up with the steps.

Techniques & Breakdown

During this three-day online course, you’ll explore a stunning mix of tambour beading, stumpwork and foiling to create a beautifully delicate, three-dimensional butterfly. You will learn how to work your butterfly wings flat on a piece of silk organza with chain stitch stitched in a tambour style.
