Hand & Lock’s brand new ‘Goldwork Bubbles’ taster is the perfect introduction to the art of metal thread embroidery, blending elegance and creativity as you stitch two glasses of champagne in shimmering gold metal threads. In this three-hour course, participants will learn key goldwork techniques, focusing on creating delicate bubbles and the intricate details of the glasses. With purely gold threads, you’ll craft a sparkling design that captures the celebratory essence of champagne while gaining hands-on experience with this luxurious and timeless embroidery style.

This exciting taster class offers a beautiful intro into the art of goldwork embroidery, starting from the very basics of the technique. Our expert tutors will guide you through fundamental skills, including threading a needle, applying Pearl Purl, Cutwork and attaching golden beads. (with tips and tricks from our tutors). Delve into the diverse characteristics and properties of various metal threads, followed by immersive instruction on their use, allowing you to bring to life an exquisite design that showcases your new found skill.

All of the materials for this taster course will be provided. Please feel free to bring your own embroidery tools and equipment if it would make you feel more comfortable.

Accessibility

Our in person classes are taught in our school which is located upstairs in our studio. Unfortunately the building does not have lift access, so use of the stairs would be necessary.

Tutor Profiles

Our bespoke classes are taught be expert hand embroiderers who have worked in the couture industry for brands such as Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Dior, Valentino, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, YSL, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, Schiaparelli, Lanvin and Burberry to name a few. The classes will cover the basics, insider tips and practical application making sure students are fully equipped to go on and apply what they have learned to their own garments and develop their own unique styles. Our tutors are work embroiderers first and tutors second which means they are able to give you a unique insight into the magical world of couture hand embroidery.
