Rosie Gee

2nd place in the 2019 Hand & Lock Prize, Student Textile Art Category

"The concept 'Palpable' explores tempting the sense of touch through couture embroidery with tactile surfaces. "

— Rosie Gee

Rosie Gee is a multi award winning couture hand embroiderer who graduated from Birmingham City University in 2019. Her winning embroidery submiussion was taken from her final collection, ‘palpable’ which was inspired by sensory overload and the natural world.

Her intricate embroidered chain mail featured tambour beading, silkshading, goldwork, hand stitching and three dimensional beading. Using faux fur, leather and recycled plastics, Gee demonstrated her democratic approach to materials.

Gee saw her entry for the 2019 as an opportunity to challenge herself in preparation of entering the textile, embroidery and fashion industry.
