Prize Coordinator

Location: London Oxford Circus
Salary: £15K per annum
Part Time – Permanent – 3 days a week

Hand & Lock is looking for an enthusiastic and creative team member to join the Hand & Lock Prize for embroidery. The Prize Coordinator will work alongside the Director of Hand & Lock to manage the smooth running and organisation of all aspects of the Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery. This position requires you to look at new and exciting ways to promote The Prize to targeted audiences through social media, online and in-person events to raise interest in embroidery and the Prize. You will be asked to research, recruit and contract competition judges and mentors who are an important part of The Prize’s reputation. You will also be responsible for the two stages of competition judging; the first online judging process and the final in-person judging event. You will also lead the organisation of the annual prize-giving from the planning stages, right through to running the events, and post-event evaluation.

This position will require you to be self motivated, organised and to use your initiative, there will also be elements of problem solving through event planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Raising awareness of the Prize for Embroidery and engaging audiences
  • Maintaining, updating The Prize website and social media platforms
  • Create assets and content for Prize social media accounts and marketing campaigns
  • Budgeting & Scheduling 
  • Build & maintain relationships with all finalists 
  • Basic contract creation & updating for finalists, judges mentors and exhibitors 
  • Research, recruit and contract mentors & judges for the Prize mentoring programme, as well as nurture existing relationships
  • Event management and organisation of the annual prize-giving

 

 

Skills/Qualifications:

 

  • Previous event management experience
  • Self motivated, highly organised and works well towards tight deadlines, works well  under pressure
  • Competent in excel, word and powerpoint, or equivalent software packages
  • Experience in using Adobe design suites would be an advantage
  • Be an excellent problem solver
  • Work with flexibility as some out of hours work may be required

Fundraising Specialist / Sponsorship Manager

Location: London Oxford Circus

Hand & Lock are looking for a Fundraising Specialist / Sponsorship Manager to be responsible for implementing and executing annual revenue generating activities for the Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery, a non-profit annual embroidery prize. This role focuses on strategic sponsorship initiatives aimed to raise brand awareness, support the mission of The Prize and secure resources needed to grow and implement the annual programme.

We are looking for someone who has excellent communication and organisational skills,  you should be able to build strong and long term connections with sponsors and partners of the Prize for Embroidery. As The Prize grows over the next few years we would envisage this role to grow with it.

Responsibilities:

  • Devise sponsorship strategy and annual plans to reach and develop a range of corporate partners
  • Researching fundraising opportunities and writing grant applications to charitable trusts or statutory bodies
  • Developing and organising fundraising campaigns and events 
  • Building relationships with major donors or companies
  • Preparing and delivering presentations
  • Spotting fundraising opportunities and raising awareness of the organisation’s work

 

 

Skills/Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree is preferable but employment-related qualifications such as those offered by the Institute of Fundraising can be even more sought after. These include the Certificate in Fundraising and the Diploma in Fundraising.
  • Ideally we would be looking for a minimum of 3 years experience in a similar fundraising role, however, experience in marketing or sales could be considered.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Research skills. The successful candidate will have strong research skills to devise sponsorship strategies, as well as spotting and taking advantage of donation opportunities

Internships

Studio Assistant

Basic hand sewing skills essential

Location: London Oxford Circus
Salary: Unpaid

You will spend your day working with the design and embroidery teams to help facilitate the flow of jobs through the studio in a timely and organised fashion. Jobs will include assisting the designer on large scale design work, assisting the embroiders with preparing garments for monogramming and setting up frames. Depending on the time of year you may be assisting with in-studio events, the Spring/Summer collection or the annual Hand & Lock Prize for embroidery. Duties may also include assisting with machine embroidery work, posting work on social media and maintaining an ordered studio.

This internship is ideal for anyone hoping to broaden their experience within the fashion industry and interns the time and scope to work on their own projects and learn from professionals.

Within the placement schedule you will be working in the departments of :-

Digital Embroidery – Preparing work for embroidery on the Digital Machines, a chance to learn about larger scale projects.
Hand Embroidery – Monogramming and specialist work – this may involve Tambour beading silk shading and sampling etc.,
Production of larger scale work in embroidery.
Marketing, Social Media and Website insights.
Archive & Military research and documentation.
Assisting customers at front of house with enquiries (All training will be given) 

Within the placement scheme you are also welcome to attend one or more (spaces permitting ) of our specialist classes free of charge.

All placements run Mon – Fri 10 am until 4.30 pm (sometimes could be later if little errands need to be run at last minute). You will have 30 minutes for lunch.

Our placements normally run from 1-6 months, a minimum of 3 days a week and are all unpaid, we cannot help with travel or accommodation expenses, to this end the amount of time you would like to spend here is entirely up to you but must be in-keeping with legal requirements regarding internships.

Embroidery Assistant

Previous embroidery experience required

Location: London Oxford Circus
Salary: Unpaid

You will primarily work on creating seasonal samples with our head of hand embroidery. During the internship you will work at a full size embroidery frame using haute couture techniques to produce on trend samples for the design team to present to potential clients. Duties will also include helping the studio assistant maintain a tidy and well ordered studio and helping out on large scale projects if and when necessary. While at Hand & Lock you will have the opportunity to learn new embroidery skills and how to take traditional techniques and apply them in a contemporary fashion. Especially talented interns will have the opportunity to learn haute couture embroidery techniques such as goldwork, silkshading and tambour beading.

This internship is ideal for anyone hoping to broaden their experience within the fashion industry and interns the time and scope to work on their own projects and learn from professionals.

Marketing Assistant

No previous experience necessary but must be able to write and speak fluent English.

Location: London Oxford Circus
Salary: Unpaid

You will assist the Communications Manager and Prize Coordinator to promote and sell the Hand & Lock brand. As such you will need to be a natural and confident communicator. Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign are preferred but not essential.

Duties include managing social media, writing product descriptions, writing press releases, designing publicity materials and organising promotional events. Within the marketing department you will also help with administration and ecommerce fulfilment of orders made through the Hand & Lock Website. You will learn how to use essential marketing software’s such as Buffer and Mail Chimp as well as how to edit articles on WordPress and add and edit products to an Oxatis eCommerce site. This internship is ideal for anyone looking to start a career in Fashion Marketing or PR and offers plenty of room for developing your own projects or ideas.
