“Paradise Lost” is a creative exploration inspired by the Garden of Eden, focusing on the themes of environmental protection, cultural heritage and the cycles of life. This project contrasts the serene beauty of our origins with the chaotic reality of modern existence, illuminating the tension between preservation and degradation. Through the evocative imagery of a lonely feast and an abandoned church, accompanied by the haunting presence of a lost angel, the work symbolises both reverence and desolation.
The technical execution of “Paradise Lost” employs a rich combination of digital and hand embroidery on diverse surfaces, including felt, metal and water-soluble materials. The use of natural-dyed upcycled fabric with various green reflecting potential renewal amidst decline, enhanced the project’s commitment to sustainability, while oxidised metals introduce a sense of decay and transformation.
This collection underscores the urgent need for environmental stewardship, reminding viewers of the fragility of our planet and the importance of safeguarding its legacy for future generations.
