Hirushi Jayathilake is a Fashion Textile Designer, an Undergraduate in Fashion Textiles Embroidery from London College of Fashion. She runs a Womenswear label called H I R U S H I; An Emerging Haute Couture brand in London and Sri Lanka.
Specialising in Hand Embroidery and Ornate Embroidery to create Haute Couture and Ready-to-wear silhouettes.
Each piece is produced with the highest standard, offering a luxury and tactile feel to every piece intended to be treasured for a lifetime.
Influenced by Buddhist mythology and archaeologic history, this project depict history reinvented by a mythical theme of a tea party celebration at the Sigiriya fortress lotus pond. The inspiration behind this project was the Painting of the Sigiriya Maidens believed to be goddess Tara.
The textiles incorporate ornamental artistry of embellished abstract water lilies and mandala shapes which depict hope, joy and celebration. It also represents the glamour and beauty of Southern Asian women, the joyful and creative aspects of the region’s culture, and the sense of compassion and care displayed throughout the Orient.

Capturing youth, feminine energy, happiness, romance and freedom of movement; ornamental artistry of unusual wild lily embellishments are created to depict elegance, inner strength and the beauty of nature. The silhouettes take centre stage with intricate details that celebrate the essence of charmed romance. Transporting you into a world of reverie, this piece harmoniously weaves modern elegance with a youthful romantic touch through its bewitching details. Research is broadened by looking at ornate Baroque interior florals and crystal chandeliers at the palace of the Versailles.
This theme connects with the brief using themes of culture, history, inner transformation, sustainability and optimism.
Techniques such as stump-work, couching, goldwork, handmade 3D tactile flowers and applique embroidery are used on embroidered motifs and intricate decorative florals. The textiles are then beaded using Swarovski, glass beads and leftover trims. Floral 3D handmade embellishments are made using Natural straw and beads to bring in the sustainable element and circular design strategies aiming to reduce our impact on the planet and be green conscious. Lavishly beaded embellishments and hand embroidery with a twist of machine work are combined to highlight the craftsmanship, detail and depth.
The colour palette was created using earthly autumn tonal colours well synchronized. Shades of gold, rose, blush pink, pearl white, beige, copper are used. The colours and texture of the textiles were inspired by flower experimentations, rock paintings and temple mandalas. The embroidery mimics the textures found in nature. Delicate elements are rough and structured while rigid textures are soft.
