The Piece:

The Lily Pond

Influenced by Buddhist mythology and archaeologic history, this project depicts history reinvented by a mythical theme of a tea party celebration at the Sigiriya fortress lotus pond. The inspiration behind this project was the Painting of the Sigiriya Maidens believed to be goddess Tara.

The textiles incorporate ornamental artistry of embellished abstract water lilies and mandala shapes which depict hope, joy and celebration. It also represents the glamour and beauty of Southern Asian women, the joyful and creative aspects of the region’s culture, and the sense of compassion and care displayed throughout the Orient.
