Studio Manager

Lucy Howe

Surrey born Lucy grew up surrounded by music, art and crafts and went on to study at Central Saint Martins and the University of Edinburgh.

Studio Manager Lucy Howe expertly oversees all of Hand & Lock’s in-house hand embroidery projects, co-ordinates the School for Embroidery and looks after students on placement in the atelier. A graduate of Central Saint Martins and also the University of Edinburgh, she is the first point of contact for most of our customers and responsible for the smooth running of the entire studio.

Away from H&L, Lucy’s love of textiles began when she first encountered the work of William Morris. Growing up in a musical family, she was encouraged to draw and express herself artistically, leading to a life-long passion for design. Now, her favourite projects to oversee include ecclesiastical restorations, bridal embroideries and cutting edge fashion.

The job of Studio Manager at H&L requires organisation skills, extreme focus and the ability to keep track of dozens of jobs as they move through the studio. Customers benefit from Lucy’s ability to really listen and understand, her attention to detail and her comprehensive understanding of textiles and how they respond to different embroidery.

"Lucy is well organised, chic and sophisticated. A true creative soul - you can tell by the horrendous state of her desk."
