Digital Embroidery Designer

Alice Slater

From Hertfordshire, Alice studied embroidery and textiles at the London College of Fashion before joining Hand & Lock’s machine embroidery department in 2022.

Growing up in a small Hertfordshire village, Alice discovered the power of creativity from a young age. Watching her mum organise creative arts summer camps for the children from the local community, she saw the importance of craft and art. When she was old enough, Alice was drafted in to help lead workshops and gradually discovered her own passion for creativity, self-expression and artisan craft.

At college, Alice developed a specific interest in surface decorations and textiles that led to her choosing to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Textiles: Embroidery at the London College of Fashion. With a strong knowledge of hand embroidery, freehand machine, beading, goldwork and digital embroidery she graduated in 2021 with honours and went on to work for The London Embroidery Studio and designer JW Anderson.

In 2022, she impressed the team at Hand & Lock with her machine embroidery expertise and eye for detail. Joining the machine department she has already worked on high-profile projects for Kara Melches, SNX Studio, Emily Moore and Freddie Yauner. At Hand & Lock she enjoys the variety of embroidery disciplines and the potential for combining embroidery techniques.
