Dracula Untold

A Hollywood Production

Hand & Lock were commissioned by costume designer Libby Dempster to embroider an exquisite piece for the blockbuster movie, Dracula Untold.

Inspired by an Indonesian design, the pattern provided by Libby was expertly translated into a resolved piece of embroidery by Hand & Lock’s Head of Design Scott Gordon Heron.

Embodying ceremonial tradition, the pattern is embellished using a hand guided Irish embroidery machine in a satin stitch while each beautiful shape is edged in goldwork wire adding an exquisite finish to the design. A beautiful silent tribute to the art of embroidery, Dracula Untold opens with a scene featuring Hand & Lock embroidery on the jacket and closes with an equally beautiful Hand & Lock embroidered jacket in blue worn by the son of the main character both embroidered by Hand & Lock’s Head of Design Scott Gordon Heron.

Dracula Untold is a 2014 American dark fantasy action horror film directed by Gary Shore and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Rather than focusing on Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula, the film creates an origin story for its title character, Count Dracula, by re-imagining the story of Vlad the Impaler. Luke Evans portrays the title character, and Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper, Art Parkinson, and Charles Dance appear in supporting roles.
