for the 2018 H&L Prize for Embroidery

Every September the Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery begins its 14 month cycle concluding the following year in November.

The process starts with entrants registering though the H&L website and concludes with an exciting live judging at the historic Bishopsgate Institute in the City of London.

If you are entering the 2018 Prize this page will remind you where we sit in the schedule and what deadlines or key dates are looming.

Detailed below are the all important deadlines for registering, uploading images of you work in progress and for submitting final physical pieces.

2018 Prize Opens

Prize Registration Closes

Online Design Upload Portal Opens from 1st April - 6th July. Submit 3-6 images of work and final designs. Qualifying round for first round of competition.

6th July 2018

Online Design Portal Closes

The portal will close at Midnight on July 6th 2018. Any entries received after this time will not be eligible for the competition

27th July 2018

Finalists Selected

All entrants notified if they are through to the next round. You will be contacted by 27th July and, if successful, allocated a mentor.

21st September 2018

Deadline for Work to be Received at Hand & Lock

Final pieces must be received at the Hand & Lock studio in London by 17:30 on Friday 21st September 2018.

Thursday 15th November 2018

Live judging and Prizegiving Event at the Bishopsgate Institute

Finalists, mentors, industry experts and press will be present. The vote is split between a judging panel and guests of the event voting for favourite entries.
