Robert McCaffrey

Originally from the North West, Robert studied Communications at Lancaster University before going on to work in national newspapers and magazines. He joined Hand & Lock in 2013 and oversees the company's digital and print communications.

An enthusiastic storyteller, Robert is at the forefront of Hand & Lock’s mission to educate the public on all matters relating to high-end hand embroidery. He conducts tours of the atelier and delights in sharing the anecdotes and historical quirks of the company with anyone that will listen.

 

Determined to modernise Hand & Lock, Robert was keen to develop the company’s digital output, redeveloping the website, eCommerce site and embracing social media. At the same time his love for Print media can be seen in the production of the annual magazine ‘Issue’.

In addition to working at Hand & Lock, Robert is doing an Art History degree after being inspired by many of the textile artists he met through his work at Hand & Lock. The studies complement and enrich his interest in this endlessly fascinating area of the fashion and textiles industry.

Liaising with 13 bag partners to build a cohesive marketing and PR strategy ahead of a charitable auction.

Speaking on Monocle radio about some of the issues that affect craft and manufacturing businesses in the UK.
