Embroidery Teacher

Janika Mägi

Born in Estonia in 1987, couture embroiderer Janika Mägi started her career as a ballet dancer before graduating to costume and finally couture embroidery. Now she is one of Hand & Lock's freelance embroidery teachers.

Janika joined Hand & Lock in 2013 as an embroiderer before leaving in 2016 to travel and undertake freelance embroidery work. A talented embroiderer and teacher H&L offered Janika a position as freelance embroidery teacher.

Janika has shared her expertise with hundreds of students all over the world and taught classes here in the UK and all over the US. Student appreciate her encyclopaedic knowledge of embroidery techniques, expert eye and patience.

Whilst at H&L Janika worked on high profile projects including The Great British Dress for Nicholas Oakwell, Mary Katrantzou’s AW14 collection, an embroidered assault rifle for Peace One Day and an embellished chair for Madonna.
